December 18, 2014, 10:19 am Got a call from a wireless caller, asked for my husband but he was at work and he started talking to me and he said he was with technical dept of the worldwide web and that people have been hacking into our line and they are showing critical errors on their main server from this "hacking". He wanted me to log into my computer so he could show me the errors and something about a foreign network line. He sounded Indian and when I asked for a customer service number to call back he didn't know what that was and said I'd have to talk to the senior expert technician and that he has an internal number but no outside number to call in....I kept questioning him about a number to call back if he was with a real company and that I needed time to check this out and he kept wanting to show me on the computer - I said no and that I needed a number, he said he could give me his personal number, which was 707-288-4252 and said his name was Will Eddy and he was in San Diego CA. I said I wasn't going to do anything until I could call back or answer the phone when they call back - he said he'd call back in an hour or two...he also said they tried to call yesterday, which I don't show the number in my log of numbers....pretty persistant, so I pulled this up and seen the comments about a scam. They may try tech support scams or in my case try to tell you that your serial number has expired and needs to renewed. March 23, 2015, 4:19 pm Got a call that shows on i.d. box as this number, from New York, NY. Man with heavy Indian accent, claiming to be from Microsoft and wanting to fix an error on our computer. I got a similar call recently from a number that said it was from Townsend, MT. When I couldn't get an intelligible answer to any of my questions, I told him I couldn't understand what he was saying, and I hung up. Looking up both numbers on the internet, I see that other people have had the same type of call from both of these numbers, and that both numbers register as "no longer in service" if you try to call them back. June 2, 2015, 9:38 pm I got the same call as everyone else. The first tip that it was a scam was when he said they were reading a "problem" with my wife's Windows computer. We have Mac. Duh. So I kept him on the line pretending that I couldn't get the instructions to work on my computer for about five minutes or so. Eventually, I told him I don't have a Windows computer, and he asked why I was doing this to him. June 4, 2015, 8:54 pm Just got a call this evening at 5:43 pm, although I have seen this number on my caller ID previously. The man had a very, very heavy Indian accent and spoke rapidly. I work for years will many people from India and I couldn't understand this man except it was something about Microsoft and my computer. I got very impatient and said "I can't understand one word you are saying, so it is important you will repeat it slowly". He started to repeat and I was abruptly cut off. September 26, 2015, 5:39 pm Same thing. Guy claimed he was from a computer firm in Texas and that I had a virus on my machine that was sending them error messages and that he could fix it. He apparently took our name from a phone listing. So, I asked him what my IP was. He didn't know what I was talking about, so I hung up. Sounded like he was calling from Asia though. I asked him what company he was from and he would not identify it. I told him that Microsoft would not call anyone on Thanksgiving and this call was b*sh*t and hung up on him. January 20, 2016, 6:04 pm I get these calls all the time - scam to get remote access to your computer and steal all your info. If I have time, I'll keep them on the phone as long as I can - I act like I'm really old and can't hear and ask them to wait - I even hang up and they'll call back! I'll ask them to wait and lay the phone down and go about my business and they wait!! I figure if I keep them on the phone, it could save some others from getting these calls...plus it's kind of fun! :) Some of them get really mad - and that makes it really worth it! January 22, 2016, 4:06 pm A man with a thick Indian accent claiming to be from "Microsoft" tried to get me to go to a website *teamviewer.com* and download their app. I kept him on the line as long as I could go along with it but I didn't go to the site out of fear it had malware. Google teamviewer scam and see how they get people to give remote access to their computers, do not fall for this. Microsoft doesn't call you ever, you have to call them when your computer is broken. I told him, I said what would your mother do if she seen you doing this scammer stuff, I said wouldnt she be disappointed in you. I went on to preach the gospel, I said there is a God in Heaven watching you and you will have to face him one day about your scams. Then he laughed and started cussing me out. I said I told you, you were a scammer, what legitimate company would cuss a customer out. He was totally confused, then handed the phone to his female counterpart. I started preaching the gospel to her, she proclaimed it was not a scam. I told her about judgement day too, Told her she should get a real job at Wal Mart. I also said by the way, the name of the company is not Windows. I said Windows is a product by the company Microsoft. I said at least get the name of the company right and dont forget Jesus is watching you still. Then she hung up. They have a tape playing in the background, its funny like you are supposed to hear 100's of phone reps talking. They couldnt keep the tape running and had to keep turning it back on. I first started playing along with the heavy accented Indian guy saying, "Oh no, this happens all the time. I'm so glad you called. I need to get rid of this virus!" after about 10 minutes of him trying to get me to "do" things to give him access and me "not understanding what to do...he got really frustrated. So I then said I have a solution to give him access, I just need to know what color panties you are wearing? He said what I said exactly you are trying to steal my shorts! hahahaha. I googled the number and found this article......Torrington police are warning residents of a phone scammer who attempts to gain remote access to the victims%u2019 computers and steal their personal information. Police said the scammer has called anonymously from the number 646-612-3456 and claims to be from the %u201Cworldwide web%u201D or another internet-based company. The scammer has been known to tell the victim there%u2019s a problem with his or her computer and offers to help the victim troubleshoot the issue. This would allow the scammer to gain access to victims%u2019 computers and retrieve their personal information, police said. Police said residents should refrain from allowing anonymous callers to access their computers, and to call their internet service providers directly for help with any problems or concerns.
