March 12, 2015, 1:08 pm Some kind of criminal enterprise from the nation of India. The call will almost 100% certainly sound Indian while demanding money for taxes you illegally avoided. All lies. You don't owe money and this is actually a criminal from another country using ip computer phone or google phone lines to hide their true identity. These people are most likely the same criminal call centres involved with the million dollar operation for pc technical support that also most often has an Indian accented person calling. April 4, 2015, 4:39 pm They stupid people from India faking white people names and say they work for the IRS. They demand payments form back taxes or "tax evasion" you are involved in. Threats of arrest or litigation are common for this type of call. I wouldn't worry too much about them. Just hang up and block. Consider it phone spam. April 16, 2015, 6:23 am An obvious scammer faking it's identity as being the IRS government agency. Not the case. IRS doesn't make calls threatening people for non-payment. The government works much the same as the business world. You need records on paper before going to court. They don't tell you to "pay up now or else" and then threaten arrest with another government agency. That's simply just nit how America operates on the government level. Caller Company: IRS?? August 22, 2015, 2:44 am I'm not sure if the claims previous are true. I got a letter from them asking to verify my identity and it had this number. I did call them IRS and gave them the special number on the form to verify myself. There does appear to be an issue so I would call the IRS direct yourself if you get a letter. September 25, 2015, 12:53 pm If you get a letter with this number listed on it then I suggest you go down to your local irs office and verify this yourself in person. Do 't take chances. Yes, a lot of irs fraud happens on the phone from India, but this one might be the real deal. March 27, 2017, 11:27 am It is a fraud and pretty sophisticated. Previously (March 9) received a letter from the IRS based in Georgia which stated our return was being reviewed. Problem is that we had not filed yet. Was able to confirm this was a fraudulent return with agent on phone. In addition we know our CPA's system had been hacked. On March 21 we received a letter from IRS based in Austin, Texas that requested we call 800-830-5084 as they needed to verify our information. Problem is that I had already spoken with IRS agent previously (March 13 -who listed name and badge number) and verified receiving fraudulent return. This is a sophisticated scam and it is fraudulent. There are even fraudulent links to an IRS site (static site). Additionally the fraudulent letter was only two pages and the authentic letter was four pages long and much more thorough. Beware! Caller Company: No name--letter received asking to call this number
