February 5, 2015, 11:08 pm Microsoft tech support con artists calling me. I live in Canada and one of the news channels recently ran a story on one of these calls where the guy threatened the home owner with death. So it's a famous joke in Canada now. Had to laugh at the guy after I pretended I was following his instructions. When I was done I just told him"but aren't you just a criminal trying to fool me? why should I listen to you?" He hung up. Anyway to people who don't know these tech support calls are big money makers because they fool people into needing $300 memberships for continued support or sell you software that is actually for free after that get your trust. March 1, 2015, 2:38 am I got a call from someone who claimed to be involved with the IRS and that had back taxes and fines from previous tax problems that needed to be paid immediately or they would send agents to my home to arrest me along with other "serious" legal complications if I didn't pay up. As expected this person had a thick almost unintelligible Indian accent and so based on the tendency for most of these calls to have people with Indian accents I will assume this is just another overseas scammer using ip phones to con people with extortion calls. March 24, 2015, 7:09 am The call was from some woman with an Indiana accent telling me that I had a drug order ready from an online pharmacy and wanted to confirm shipment. I haven't made any online or offline orders from any pharmacies so this either a phishing scam or a huge mistake. I hung up before bothering to think of asking more questions.
