They've been around for a long time and the FTC has gone through considerable stress to try to stop them without luck. They continue to evade any policing and are most likely making millions of dollars. It's best to never accept any financial offers over the phone from financial institutions unless you've called them directly using the toll free line on the back of your card to be 100% certain you are speaking to a real agent. January 19, 2015, 2:15 am Very old scam to reduce credit card interest rates with automated skimming. They tell you a big lie about a time limited offer that you need to take advantage of immediately to avoid losing it to pressure you into inputing your credit card number into the phone as quickly as possible. The often chage the cards they skim in this manner immediately after logging it. The most common charge amount is $495. No idea why they choose that amount. March 5, 2015, 5:31 pm This scammer violates the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by calling numbers on the national do not call registry. They further violate the TCPA by failing to have an operator on the line when the phone is answered and playing a recorded message without an operator on the line to stop or pause the recording and answer questions. They continue to violate the TCPA once an operator is on the line by refusing to provide a phone number when asked, and hanging up when asked for an address. Their recording is the quite aged offer to lower interest rates on credit cards. Though the recording claims that this is your second (not true, there have been many) and final (unlikely to be true, it probably won't be more than a week before the next one) offer, and that you are already qualified, the operator starts with questions indicating that the scammer has very little information and you are not prequalified. When the live person comes on I ask "Did you ever perform ______ with your father or mother? How about your neighbors dog? The more perverted the better. Use your imagination and make it really bad.
