November 21, 2014, 7:39 pm I received a call from a foreign man (sounded middle eastern), and he told me that my computer was not downloading Windows updates properly, and he insisted that I get on my computer and so he can help me with this issue. I could tell it was a scam... I asked him to explain what the issue was and he repeatedly told me to get on my computer so he could show me. Once again I refused to do so. I asked him for his companies address and supervisor. He told me he would forward that information, but I once again told him to simply tell me. After 15 minutes of a run around he finally said he worked in New Jersey (which does not have a 202 area code). 5 minutes later he was more specific: 259 Ridge Rd, New Jersey, NJ 08854- obvious a FAKE and made up location ( There is no New Jersey, NJ) Supervisor: Mike Wilson (foreign as well) I asked him how he got my number and he said I was on his Database from Windows which is impossible because I do not own a Microsoft operating system. November 21, 2014, 8:54 pm At 6:38 pm this evening, I received exactly the same type of call as Mickie listed right above this message. I knew from the moment the caller began speaking that this was a scam. The male caller's accent was so strong I could hardly understand him. He kept insisting that I get on my computer so he could assist me in enabling Windows to update properly. I also asked for his supervisor's name and number which he stated was not possible. November 24, 2014, 2:50 pm received a call 11/24/14. I did not answer but it has repeatedly called for more than a week. It is obviously a scam. I hapaned to take an identity theft class today about phone calls such as this. When you answer they are able to get into your phone operating system and hack into your e-mail etc to get personal information about you. December 9, 2014, 4:03 pm Kept telling me my PC was not updating correctly. I kept telling him I didn't have a PC and he refused to believe me. Was actually pretty entertaining for a while. December 27, 2014, 4:26 pm This number called me with a foreign middle eastern man telling me something about my Windows. He said he name was Ryan. I automatically raised my voice with a few choice words telling him NO NO Not talking to you! He replied back Yes Yes Yes! Reason I was so rude this time a few months back the same guy called about the same thing and it got ugly. It got ugly because he started calling me names no man should call a woman. My husband called him back this time he got an answering service wanting you to put in an extension or leave a message. So he left a message for the guy to call him! January 7, 2015, 1:24 pm Just got the second call this week - missed the first one but got the message. Clearly a scam. Told the last one - female, could barely hear her, background noises and strong Indian/Pakistani accent "I can't hear you; you're in India, I'm on the no-call list, good-bye!" and hung up. Have also had good luck dealing with these nuisances by launching into a long, wordy spiel about whatever charitable cause I pick out of the air. Might be real; might be fictional, but I can get very "pushy" with it and my urging the caller to donate, volunteer, whatever. Once the shoe's on the other foot, the original callers hang up in a hurry. A friend hears them out, then announces that the little green men are coming out of the crack in the wall. January 12, 2015, 5:01 pm when Microsoft windows support calls, I pretend to play along - "accidentally" unplug computer, have to wait for it to reboot - is it so slow because of this virus? Then, say, I thought you said to SHUT IT Off, not turn it on. Wait for reboot again. Then, say you have to answer the door - all from the comfort of your sofa - you don't even have to get up, or miss any of your tv show - they wanna waste your time? Waste some of theirs... January 28, 2015, 2:15 pm Caller said that windows was not updating properly on my computer. I informed them that my computer updated just fine yesterday. Their response to this was that if I looked at my background processes I would see that this wasn't the case. They kept trying to get me to log onto my computer which I did not do. The caller was a heavily accented woman who did not identify herself or who she worked for. It sounded like the caller was in the car or something with a lot of background noise. Very strong Indian accent, I could barely understand him and he had a hard time understanding me. He wanted to know if I was in front of my computer, I said no I was at work. He asked if he could call back later, I said it would have to be after 8:30. He said he gets off at 6:00. I was getting really annoyed and suspicious because I couldn't understand half of what he was saying, so I just said I'd call them back later and hung up. February 10, 2015, 2:32 pm I too just received a call from this number and this Indian sounding woman said it was in regards to my computer, an then asked me to turn it on, I said who are you trying to reach? And she said a name and I didn't understand the name and asked again and the name changed.. Really sketchy so I told her she had the wrong number... I asked him how he got the number and he said off of the application I completed and I had to take the loan. I told him I did not have to take anything and ended the call. I have never applied for a Federal Grant (Nor do I need one) They left no company name. I told them facts that I have not applied and they said I am sorry and hung up before I could get any addtional information regarding the call. March 23, 2015, 1:51 pm Caller said his name was Alex from US Financial. He told me that I was approved for a $8,000 grant from the state of Nevada. He said that I applied online for free financial assistance. I told him that I did not fill out a form and he continued to inform me that he had my first and last name, e-mail address and home address. I asked him what e-mail address he had and it was one that is a dummy account that I do not use. He then told me that in order to get the grant I would have to pay a $3.50 processing fee and it could be on any type of credit card or pre-paid card. I told him that I do not use credit cards and he asked if any of my friends or family would let me use theirs and I told him that for security reasons they don't.
